Interesting and getting better
This free, local museum has exhibits from all over the world and from the West Country.
The more modern displays are great - many are inter-active and have some stunning antiquities.
There is also an interesting wildlife section, with lots of stuffed birds and mammals - there are some stunning eagles and other birds of prey in the upstairs galleries.

On our last visit, the travelling Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition was on display - WOW! Some of the most amazing nature & wildlife photographs you will ever come across. Pity this isn't a permanent feature of the Museum.
Staff are helpful and the giftshop does a roaring trade - it has a massive selection of post cards and a good range of books.
Allow at least 3 hrs, or explore selectively in stages over a year.

Very good museumn
The Bristol City Museumn & Art Gallery is located at the very top of Park Street near the Wills Memorial building. It has been done-up in recent years & now has a glass entrance from the street, & entrance is now free which is always incentive for visiting. It offers the usual displays all year around with special displays - for example one by Aardman Animations, the creators of Wallace & Gromit - which will no doubt encourage young visitors through the doors. There is the obligatory gift shop & a nice cafe which is usually filled with families lunching. Worth a visit for an hour or too.

Lovely cafe!
Well I’d like to say the Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery is a treasured find, but I’ve never actually been round the displays myself. However I can tell you the cafe is a handy meeting spot for mums and babies. They serve the usual teas and coffees, plus scrummy cakes, which is, of course, essential for this type of gathering. During peak times it can get a little tricky to wheel your buggy down to the sofas at the far end of the cafe, so be aware if you have a pram with a wide wheelbase. Unfortunately both times I have needed to use the baby changing facilities (which are located in the disabled toilets nearby), the pull down changer was out of action. They did have a table in the toilets though which was much bigger and therefore much easier to use for changing little ones on anyway.

Recommended.
